Howard haycraft papers, 1926-1959 <bulk 1926-1927>

The small collection of papers was obtained indirectly from Howard Haycraft. The collection chiefly comprises letters from Dr. William B. Riley, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Minneapolis, who attempted to get a bill through the Minnesota State Legislature banning the teaching of evolution at the University. The letters were written to Howard Haycraft, then editor of the Minnesota Daily. There are also typescript copies of open letters from Dr. Riley and from Dr. David Swenson, a copy of Haycraft's impressions of the legislative hearing, a copy of the students' resolution against the bill, and a list of newspaper references.
